WORK SCHEDULE:
Monday through Friday, 8:45 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. FULL TIME
SALARY: $1,372.85 TO $ 1,975.37 bi-weekly
MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full time, or equivalent part-time, technical or professional experience in research or statistical work, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I. Bachelor's or higher degree may be substituted for the required experience.*
*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS/EDUCATION PREFERRED AT HIRE:
Knowledge of the methods and techniques used in the collection of research data; Knowledge of statistical research methods
and procedures including a firm working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems including ArcView; Knowledge and use
of computer applications within the Microsoft Office Suite; Ability to collect, collate, analyze, disseminate and evaluate crime and
public safety data in order to reveal patterns, trends and indicate operational applications; Applicant must be well versed in
philosophy and applications of Compstat; Strong knowledge of all aspects of police report processes including NIBRS and
knowledge of standard police records management systems; Strong background Ability to perform job responsibilities
independently with little or no supervision; Ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential information; Ability to follow
oral and written instructions; Ability to deal tactfully with others; Ability to gather information by examining records and
documents; Ability to effectively and confidently communicate to police personnel of all ranks using oral and written expression;
Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Conducts research in an assigned subject area, including formulating objectives, in order to obtain required information and prepare reports based on results of analysis. Determines the methods and procedures to be used for collecting data, including the development of data collection instruments; Analyzes information in order to draw conclusions and make appropriate recommendations based on results of research.; Prepares written reports of research findings including charts, graphs, tables and maps. Collects information from various reference sources
and consults with experts in various fields of knowledge in order to complete assigned work; Responsible for designing and implementing crime analysis applications and or units within a local and/or state police agency; Responsible for assisting in the development of crime analysis units from the bottom, up and/or assisting an existing unit with the enhancement of its capabilities Performs related work such as traveling to, working with and advising local police departments.
COMMENTS:
This is a provisional appointment. A permanent appointment will be made from a civil service eligible list when a list is established and available.
