Fulltime MPTC or MCJTC acdemy and two year degree preffered, must have drivers license, and be able to pass background check, physical and psych exam. Applications are available at Ayer Police station 54 Park Street, Ayer MA, or by calling Chief Richard Rizzo 978-772-8200.

If anyone has anyquestions about this PD send me a message, or post

we aren't gonna see ANY employment listings in MA that don't have F/T Academy as a prereq for a long time huh?!

I sent a resume in but the response I got from the LT was real standoffish, he didn't seem like he wanted to hire anyone.

i don't understand why all these towns are quick with droping $1600 on those ugly LED lights but when it comes time to sending someone to the academy they put there liberal wallets back in there pocket....

I don't see how you can compare the cost of an LED lightbar with sending someone to a police academy. The cost to send someone is approximately $35,000, plus you have to learn the job when you get out, plus they have to wait for you to graduate for six months. So instead they hire someone that can hit the street in a few weeks.

Posted by: countryboy

well i was being kind of sarcastic i just think the LEDS are a waste of money and overly priced. and i just think right now the depts that are only hiring people already full-time academy trained are putting a hault on the ones that are trying to get non-civil service jobs with just the R/I or college degree. but im sure this topic has been discussed numerous times already.

(but i was'nt aware either that it cost that much to send someone through the academy either.)

Posted by: Nuclearaudio

guys, dont get so critical of him, he was just looking out for your best interest. it's hard to find someone like that, especially if he doesn't even know who you are..

Now there's a good idea for a forum section. RESUMES. Members can post quick bullets of resumes. Think of all the trees that could be saved not having to print out all those resumes. Of course then you'd have to be very careful what you post on this site. One quick search of your screename and loads of information can be found out about you. (You can tell alot about a person after reading a few posts)

All kidding aside, why would anyone ever have a reason to go to Ayer?

Posted by: j809

Ayer is a good police department, very busy, top knotch equipment, great pay. It's very hard to get on there as they are very strict on backgrounds. That is why the position has not been filled yet. Another officer might be leaving to a larger PD so they will have 2 openings. Great bunch of guys, don't knock it.

Posted by: drewpopo

As of 3/25 there will be 2 open police officer positions, deadline to apply is 4/3

Posted by: SPINMASS

Ayer must be busy with Devens in town.
