SPENCER— A 27-year-old man who police said has been taunting them with telephone calls challenging officers to catch him will be arraigned today on a charge that he failed to show up at court last month.
Police found Adam D. Lacroix of 51 Chestnut St. on Friday night at a Temple Street home and arrested him. He had been missing since he missed his court appearance.
“He had called us on the police line,” Sgt. Michael L. Befford said. “He was saying we wouldn’t catch him.”
Police were looking for Mr. Lacroix after he failed to show up for arraignment at Western Worcester District Court in East Brookfield on Jan. 30. He was slated to be arraigned on charges of malicious destruction of property valued at more than $250, disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace. Police said he was angry over a breakup with his girlfriend and smashed a car window on Mechanic Street in the early morning hours of Jan. 29.
Police reported that when officers arrived Jan. 29, they found several neighbors in the street pointing at Mr. Lacroix and saying, “That’s him.”
Mr. Lacroix was held without bail over the weekend. He had been released on personal recognizance after his arrest last month, Sgt. Befford said.
Last year, Mr. Lacroix was charged with several motor vehicle violations after he allegedly led state and local police on a high speed-chase from Leicester into Auburn and Worcester before escaping on foot.
