Toilet paper avenger pleads guilty By Paul Leighton Staff writer
BEVERLY — The salesman who super-glued the toilet paper dispensers at Briscoe Middle School as an act of revenge pleaded guilty yesterday in Salem District Court to vandalizing a school and trespassing.
Michael O'Meara, 44, of Reading was sentenced to nine months' probation by Judge Robert Cornetta. O'Meara was also fined $750 and ordered to pay $210 to the Beverly schools for the damaged dispensers.
O'Meara admitted to super-gluing shut four toilet paper dispensers and one paper towel dispenser in a second-floor boys bathroom at Briscoe Middle School on Dec. 15. He told police he did it because he was upset about losing a contract to sell paper goods to the Beverly schools.
O'Meara worked as a salesman for the Eastern Bag & Paper Group, which sells paper products, hand soap, trash liners and other items. The School Department changed paper-goods vendors in October after another company, Georgia Pacific, offered a lower price. Eastern Bag fired O'Meara after company officials learned of the Beverly incident.
O'Meara was also ordered by the judge to stay away from Beverly schools.
