Does anyone know of any Auxiliary Departments east of 495 that are accepting applications or that may be in the near future. Thank you in advance.

The Fall River Police Dept. has an Auxiliary Unit
www.frpd.org

Posted by: pickels

Try the Randoplh Aux. Police Department. Excellent place to get a start. They send you to the reserve police academy. Check out there web site at www.rapd.8m.com Site has the info on how to join.

Posted by: Tackleberry22

I believe Attleboro has an auxillary unit. check out www.masshome.com and in the catagory box select Police and it gives you a list of police departments in the state of Massachusetts.

Posted by: SPS5592

Randolph has a good auxilary deptartment. Pretty good support from the full timers also.

Posted by: kdk240

Full timers give some support to us but only to an extent..... it really all depends what group of full timers is on,. Kind of too bad that all the groups can't be as good as on piticular grop of full timers...

Posted by: SPS5592

kdk...how many officers are on the auxilary dept in randolph?

Posted by: kdk240

Well to ans the ? INF as last we stood last month it was around 60.. we stood even with the full timers.. But I know for fact we just lost a few, who chose to quit for whatever reason, I'm not sure, and I know of Two that were asked to leave, I won't get into detail, because I don't know and to be honest don't want to know... So for right now, I'd say real close to 55 members..I will know for sure when we get the up dated roster at our meeting next week...

Posted by: mazz

My department has put on three Attleboro Auxiliaries as officers and they know their stuff. They have nothing but good things to say about their auxiliary unit.

Posted by: Anonymous

Try Haverhill Aux. www.hapd.org
They will send you to the academy, they have full police powers(arrest,chapter90,etc..)they do carry 9mm(not issued, your own)

Some advice, reserve academy usually runs 2x ayear.1 starts in January and 1 in September. unless its changed you'd be without that training until september.

Does Whitman, Ma have an Aux Dept?

Posted by: csauce30

I dont believe that Whitman PD has an Auxiliary department like that of randolph, or haverhill, but I do believe that they have a few auxiliary officers that work occasionally. Someone else may have better information...

Hey
I got any and all info if you are interested in Fall River Auxiliary Police

Posted by: Mikey682

FRConst werent you just appointed the Commandant-Colonel of the FR Auxiliary Dept?

Posted by: FRPDConstable

Mikey682

Far from that I am just an ordinary memeber of the unit. Thats about it...

Posted by: Vino5SJ

Mikey682,

Watch out because FRConst might fire you from your job. This is where he really is the Commandant-Colonel....

Posted by: Mikey682

just one more addition to my written warning library

Posted by: FRPDConstable

Mikey682
I have a long way to go... I will have a real job before that.. and heck they don't even have that position... If you joined we would make it up and appoint you... you are much more worthy

Posted by: Macop

I worked for Randolph and Whitman, Stay away from from Randolph unless you are looking to get the reserve academy any way you can. Whitman is pretty good. You CAN work paid shifts, well back then $8 per hr if all the fulltimes and PIs turn it down. Also we did Ch90 and had a cite book in the cruiser. I was in Randolph for 5 year and learned nothing, they didnt let us do didly and the regulars were not that good, but there was a few. I guess it good to start but if I knew then what I knew now I would have went Whitman to begin with or attleboro or Rockland, they are also pretty good. I was in Whiman for 2 wks I was getting deatals, but I got fulltime so I left, obviously.

<font size="2" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">I have the same question in regards to the North Shore area.

Thanks,
Eric

Posted by: EsxPD319

For the North Shore Area I would try Marblehead, Hamilton and/or Wenham. I would personally recommend Hamilton or Wenham first.

Thanks Ed!

Essex,

Marblehead has auxiliaries? I didn't know that. I know Swampscott has some sort of part-time system as well. Not sure if it's auxiliary or a reserve system similar to Salem though. In addition, someone has already mentioned, Haverhill, and I worked a detail with a North Andover Auxiliary a few weeks ago as well.

At one point when I was going to school, I had applied to both Haverhill and Hamilton, in an attempt to work out my internship. I received a very quick response from Haverhill and no response at all from Hamilton. I think the only catch with Haverhill is that, everyone has to take turns doing "Church Crosswalk Duty" on Sundays.

Hey Macop,
I was wondering how do I go abouts in applying for Whitman Auxilary Police. I know to the Police Dept LOL, but who do I see, do you know and what are the steps on their hiring requirments any or all info would be appreciated thanks

Posted by: Macop

Well keep in mind that it was very hard for me to get in there. I always heard good things about them compared to other Aux units in the area and there are definately better than most in my opinion. I tried for 5 or 6 years and got nowhere. Until I had one of the fulltime Sgts for a college professor, he got me in and that was it, its definately who you know with them. But when I got in I was getting offered details. When I went in for my first shift, I had was offered a overnight detail by the end of the night. Anyway try to get in contact with Dave Campbell, he is the dep or chief of the aux. You can the W.P.D and they will either give you a number or leave him a message, assuming he is still there.

Posted by: Irish Wampanoag

Thanks for the information Macop

Posted by: EsxPD319

Pearl,

Marblehead has a Special Auxiliary Unit but it's small and they are thinking about a recruitment drive.

Posted by: Jstoney105

Whitman Does have an Aux. Unit of around 18 members. 1 year ago Whitman put 10 Aux. Through the part time acd. I was part of that group. since then i have worked 1 fri/sat night a month and 1 sunday morning a month. i get called for shifts when everyone else refuses. whitman has a good aux. department.

Posted by: PearlOnyx

Hmm, I didn't know Marblehead had anything other than full timers. I was surprised, they hired us out for a few details last month, very rare. let me know if anything pops up for the auxilliary thing. I'm always looking for extra work.

Posted by: EsxPD319

Hi Pearl,

Actually we have the ECSD in town on an almost steady basis, we had 5-6 Deputys in this week or so.

Ed

p.s Pearl check your PM

Posted by: drewpopo

Ayer police Department is in the process of updateing its reserve program, I am not sure if they will be looking for new reserve officer yet but hen they do i wil post

Posted by: PearlOnyx

Hmm, mostly daytime stuff I assume? I haven't got called for that one ever. I usually camp out on 95, 128, or 1 on the overnights. I like those better, easier work.

I know of Two good Auxiliary departments "east of 495". The first one would be Waltham. They seem to have a good relationship with the regular PD.
The second would be Haverhill. Or as referred as in another thread "the swat team"
I'm sort bias towards Haverhill for the simple fact; I am a Haverhill Auxiliary Officer. Yes we do have to do "Church details" on Sunday. As well as the Santa Parade and the 4th of July Detail. But there are several benefits to being a Haverhill Aux.
I do gain alot of experience. And it opens up doors that would not be there if I was not an aux. Since November (when i was orginally appointed) I've been certified in O.C., Baton, knife defense, and control & restraints. I am currently attending MCJTC Reserve academy and will be getting my CPR/ First responder certification.
I've taken alot of NH exams before I was an AUX, and they all said I need experience. This is the only way I was able to get some experience. We do go out on night patrol atleast on night a week. And soon we will be out alot more.
Yeah it does get old doing the church details, but it goes with the territory. And until Mass. gets their budget straighten out this is the closes most will get to being a police officer I love what I do, and I learn alot doing it.

As far as the other thread knocking the Aux officer. I know the kid personnally. He's a great guy. When we get a profile done on us we have little say on what is put in it. We just submit our bios. When he does eventually get hired full-time he will be an asset to the department.

One last thing. most Haverhil Auxiliary officers have a good grasp of their "place on the totem pole". We know we are not full-time officers. And our power and authority only extends so far. unlike you full time cops, we are in the difficult postion of having to "play police" and be citizens. When a resident sees us they first see Police, then they see Auxiliary officer. We are held to the same standards as the regulars, are expected by residents to be as knowledgeable as the regulars, and to be as trained as the regulars. We do this all for FREE! We buy all our own equipment and pay for all our own training. Again,I love what I do. I get along well with the regulars. But I know as soon as I take off the uniform I am Joe Citizen.
So if you still want to be an Auxiliary officer, go to our web site and apply. Its a good experience. Even the Chief of the regular department started out as an Auxiliary officer.

Some PDs only hire reserves with FT academies.

Posted by: Mortal knight

Yeah, I ran into that in Salem NH. I passed the written and the physical exams. Then got a letter saying that they are only interveiwing Full-time certified officers at this time. ( why bother even te$ting u$). Startham hired a guy with little LEO experience. And I heard Plaistow hired a guy with some LEO experience. I guess it all dpends on the towns budget and if they want to try to "retrain" a cop how already been there done that and set in his way. Oppose to a recruit who knows zip, and can be trained to do things their ways.

Posted by: tomahawk

Ugh... the Salem, NH test was a joke!! A candidate _specifically_ asked "will you be giving preference to certified NH police officers" before the written exam. The HR representative and Police Chief both said no, everyone would be on equal ground, and no up-front vet preference. They were looking to hire two officers out of the 120ish people who were there, and said test scores and PT results would be used to rank everyone and invite candidates back for oral boards.

So what happens after the written and practical exams? Letter in the mail saying only currently certified full-time NH police officers were being considered, but thanks for the application fee... GRR!!!

-Mike

Don't even bother with Salem NH. They only hire the people they know. I went through some training with two of their Sergeants.

Does anyone have any information on the Rockland reserve department? I just saw it listed on the RPD web-site but it really doesnt give you any details.

Posted by: j809

Rockland has a great Auxiliary/Special Program. They patrol and have full Ch.90, but don't get along too good with the regulars. The department also has permanent intermitent officers off the civil service list. They work details but most of their calls are only CH90 stops. Abington has an excellent program, and you get to do a lot more than Rockland, but no Ch.90 unless you get an OUI or other serious criminal infractions. Both departments are hard to get in, you basically should know somebody. Now Abington is laying off four FT officers in a couple of weeks, so all the specials are done, they can't work anymore. If Rockland lays off officers then the same thing will happen there. Abington had six or eight specials in the PT academy and they will not work.

Does anyone know of any auxilary departments that do not require residency?? I have tried a few places and each one requires you to live there... I'm from taunton would anyone know any departments near by with auxilary?

Posted by: Gil

Attleboro Auxiliary does not require that you live in the city. http://www.aapu.org

Look into the Wenham Auxiliary program. Good program. You ride along with another officer (full time or part time), and are detail eligible at $40/hr. You don't get paid for ride alongs, but learn alot (mostly traffic stops).

Posted by: EOD1

Now from what i gather it is what you make of it. Now when u ride with the locals can you use the ride alongs toward civil service experience points?

I was under the impression that you would have to be in a paid status to earn experience points for civil service. If I recall I had submitted a yearly total of all of my paid details when I was an auxiliary. None of my donated time counted toward anything and the % of a point that I gained didn't do anything for my overall score anyway.

If anyone is looking west of 495 the Worcester Police Auxiliary is always looking for good people.

Posted by: union1

Curious to know, do any Aux Departments grant full arrest authority to its officers? I am not talking about "Reserve" only Aux.

Posted by: Gil

Attleboro does, although many of the members don't make that many arrest they have the ability to.
