Entwistle Back In Bay State To Face Charges

Neil Entwistle To Be Charged In Family's Slayings

BOSTON -- Neil Entwistle, the man accused of murdering his Hopkinton family in January, returned to the United States Wednesday to be formally charged with the murders of his wife and daughter.

U.S. marshals escorted Entwistle from London to the United States by air Wednesday. He landed at Bangor International Airport before continuing by plane to Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford, Mass., Wednesday afternoon. He arrived in Massachusetts at about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday.

On Thursday, Entwistle will be charged with the murders of his wife, Rachel, 27, and his 9-month-old daughter, Lillian. Officials allege Entwistle shot his family in their rented Hopkinton home on Jan. 20 before fleeing to his native England. He was arrested in England last week.

Entwistle was escorted to the Hopkinton Police Department from Hanscom by a police motorcade and will be booked upon arrival. He will meet with his court-appointed attorney Wednesday evening. He will be arraigned Thursday at 2 p.m. in Framingham District Court on murder charges. Entwistle also faces one charge of possession of a firearm and one charge of possession of ammunition.

Boston defense attorney Elliot Weinstein was appointed to represent Entwistle by the Committee for Public Counsel Services, a state agency that pairs private attorneys with defendants who can't pay. Weinstein has degrees from Trinity College and Boston College. Weinstein has worked on several high-profile cases locally, including serving as defense attorney for one the Anguilo brothers during an organized crime trial. Weinstein has expressed concerns about Entwistle getting a fair trial.

Middlesex Assistant District Attorney Michael Fabbri will prosecute Entwistle. He has degrees from Northeastern and Framingham State College. Fabbri joined the district attorney's office in 1985. He carries a caseload that includes first-degree murder cases and other serious violent felonies.

Investigators believe Entwistle used one of his father-in-law's guns and returned it to his in-laws' house in Carver, Mass., before boarding a plane for England from Logan International Airport at 8:15 a.m. the next day.

Middlesex County District Attorney Martha Coakley said Entwistle's Internet business had failed and his debt was mounting, which may have prompted him to plan a murder-suicide.

Rachel and Lillian's bodies were discovered in a bed at the family's 6 Cub's Path home in Hopkinton on Sunday, Jan. 22 after the family did not answer the door for invited guests Saturday evening. Rachel was last heard from on Thursday, Jan. 19.

Rachel and Lillian each died of a single gunshot wound, according to autopsy results. Rachel died from a gunshot wound to the head. Lillian was shot in the abdomen, but that bullet also entered her mother's torso.

Entwistle, a British citizen, has been staying with his parents in their Worksop, England home. He did not return for the funerals of his wife and daughter, which were held Feb. 1 in Plymouth, Mass.

The couple, who met while Rachel was studying at York University in England, had been married for three years. Lillian was born last April.

I'm sorry, but any parent that tries to kill their child -- in this case he did ( assumingly for those who might doubt it ) -- is a POS.
and I have every right to feel that way because I survived an attempt by my father when I was 9.
Lopressor crushed into powder + Sprite soda = one almost dead child

I would assume that cruiser from wherever was available to go to Hanscom and transport him to Hopkinton for booking and holding...No big logistical conspiracy I'm sure...Then again who cares how he gets there or where the shitbag goes as long as he stands before the man in the morning right?

Lets all give the detectives involved and the lab congrats for a lot of hard work and putting it all together since Martha is taking the majority of the limelight...

Garbage like that gets transported every day, so why treat the guy like he's the Fifth Beatle for Christ's sake!? I wouldn't be looking on eBay anytime soon for Cruiser #670's rear seat cushion that Neil Entwistle sat upon from HAFB to Hopkinton PD, or the seatbelt buckle which restrained him therein, but I will tell you this...like Peter Parker knows Spiderman, you are correct in this...He is one lucky guy.

Sure, Thats why the Troopers were dressed in full dress uniform. I am sure they just didn't call the car off of Rt128.

Posted by: badogg88

They weren't in dress uniform? At least wfrom what I can remember watching it on Ch. 4, it didn't look like the dress uniform...but who am I?

Posted by: 2-Delta

It looked like regular winter uniform to me.

Posted by: dcs2244

It was the real MSP uniform, not the "glorified local uniform" worn in the summer. However, it was festooned with cell phones, pagers and other gew-gaws seemingly indispensable to lemming wannabes.

your right, I just saw the 1200 news. sorry for being a smart ass...

Posted by: badogg88

I am not MSP by any means, but I remember them wearing the regular cover, not the summer cover, which is worn with the dress uniform.

Posted by: dh18

But the MSP is trying to take over the Sheriff's job, the sheriff should have done the transport. Why tie up the police to do a prisoner transport? I hope the unions stand up and fight this backdoor attempt to take over Sheriffs....

Posted by: Rock

Oh boy,
Dh18...do you really want to start that topic AGAIN?

Garrison Covers (winter) are worn with dress uniforms during winter months, Campaign Covers in summer

Thats because there were NO Sheriffs available to do the transport... They were out trying to play police. The MSP had to step up and do both the MSP's job AND the Shefiffs job!!

Trp Callahan A-3, MSP Concord

Posted by: mtc

Oh for God's sakes,,,, Hanscom = Bedford = "A" troop.

And it was a WINTER FIELD CLASS "B" he was wearing.

Posted by: THE RP

That was the most hilarious line of gossip I have ever seen on this site....It shall be remembered in the annals of MSP history as " The day of intense speculation and curiosity". It shall be referred to during recruit training and passed on from generation to generation of new trooper as an example why one must always have a lint brush present...They may even make a commemorative coin. And if they do, I pray to god they get the uniform right.

Who cares???

How the hell does something so stupid like this even become a topic?I guess this is the reason I choose to type less on this web site. Not to be a MSP kiss ass(I'm too old to get hired by them anyway)but you have to admit that they are one of the most professional looking departments out there. And I'm sure with all the National news and this being a high profile case don't some of you think that it might have occurred to them that you never know what can happen out there and never know what nuts might be waiting for their opportunity for fame by going after Mr. Entwisle.

He hadn't even been booked yet. Technically, isn't it considered SUSPECT transport?

All the Troopers I saw were in normal Winter Field Uniform, same as anyone else.. I'm sure he ran his cruiser through a car wash though..
