Police said they've arrested two people who allegedly impersonated Jacksonville police officers in a scheme to swindle people out of thousands of dollars.
Investigators said Nikki Cogdell, 29, and Kenneth Patterson, 34, told at least two victims they were police officers and that they could get them good deals on cars at police auctions.
Jyn Picard said Nikki Cogdell told him she was a police officer and could get him a deal on a 2004 car being sold at a police auction.
"Everything seemed legit, so $1,200 is what I gave her," Picard said.
When Picard called, Cogdell allegedly answered the phone saying, "JSO. " When Picard asked to verify where she worked, she allegedly transferred transferred the call to her boyfriend, Patterson, who identified himself as Captain Fuller.
But Picard began getting suspicious when she saw a story about another victim of the scam on Channel 4. He called the real cops, and his case became part of the investigation.
Cogdell and Patterson were charged Tuesday with organized fraud and impersonating an officer.
"The detective called me and said, 'We got her.' That was satisfying, knowing we got somebody like that off the street," victim Jyn Picard said.
