The exam is very similar to the civil service police exam. They don't have a study guide as far as Iknow. You should be all set if you have taken a civil service test before.

its a pretty simple test, but i found it much harder than the nypd exam. the questions are like if 3 co's opened gate and 2 inmate left but 5 came in how many people are now in block, stuff like that. mostly counting so i used my spare sheet to do the math out. a lot of the other questions were on doc policy...and for people like myself who have never worked in corrections before i just chose the most logical answer. I did find one study guide at the book store...the publisher is Arco...14th edition correction officer study guide...costs like 14 bucks, they have actuall tests inside that are very similiar.

I thought the exam was pretty tough compared to the ones I have taken for police. Lot's of questions on DOC policies and reading comprehension.........questions like "if two inmates enter with one guard and one prisoner leaves with two guards, how many people would be in block xyz........."

I found this test kinda draining due to all the reading and charts, etc.

There really is no "study guide" to take this exam. Most of it is basic math, english and reasonable deductions that you would have learned in high school. If you feel the need to get some sort of study guide, ARCO puts out study guides which you can find generally at Barnes and Nobles and Amazon.com. They will not give you exact study and memorize guides, but it will give you somewhat of a format of the questions that will be asked. It can't hurt.. If you have taken police or figherfighter exams, they are similar. The more civil service exams you take, the easier they are to take.

Fjmas1976,

I see why you flunked the test, no "guards" work in a prison. Seriously though, did the new test actually say guards?

All kinding aside, from those I've talked to who have taken the test, said it was slated towards LE & CJ related fields. No more 2 + 2 = 4 anymore type of questions like a decade or two ago.
