What is the story with Wackenhut? Do they traditionally hire at the entry-level and train officers or is it done purely from officers who have experience and they are merely shaped into specialized officers? Is it a difficult and extensive hiring process similar to what you would find with government agencies like the FBI or SS (test, physical, psych, poly, medical)?

Next, where exactly does one find these jobs and how can you apply?

Thanks for the time.

Wackenhut does the seabrook power plant. They hire the broad spectrum, but does an extensive background check. I have a friend who was a former PO who is now a SGT there. Great job, great pay. He gave me an application , not much differnt then the typical PO app.

LOTS of guns to play with and lots of training, over-all not a bad gig for a security job. Basically its SWAT security from what he tells me.
Next time I talk to him I can more specific details.

I am familar with Wackenhut and their nuclear security. 1st off due to OPSEC I will not give specifics. The nuke security is high end training. weapons and tactics. More then I have been given by my PD. They have to keep training standards high as they are a contractor and watched by the plant and NRC. They will take most anyone you must pass a pysch and a reading & writing test and background. The rest of the training is inhouse. The pay is like $14/hr to start and benefits are minimal. A friend had 14yrs on and had almost no retirement so he left. You will do a lot of walking. Not a sleeping/homework job.

Take note it is contract guard work with a somewhat more professional element(not always)
if you look at their website Wackenhut also does some olice work in florida in the Tampa transit system.

Thanks for the help, I called them and, just my luck, they finished an application phase last Thursday. Oh well, they'll "keep me on file."

At power plants you get paid well carry enough fire power to eliminate any enemy while waiting for the world to end. Watch the desk with a shotgun or an AR strapped over your shoulder.

All the posts above are correct. I worked at Seabrook 3 months ago, i left because the job was boring and the policies set you up for failure. The starting pay is $15.12, then it goes up to $15.90. Actually i know they have a scheduled an increase to go up to $17.00 an hour. The good part of the job your highly trained at the range. The bad part the classroom training which is a complete bore. The plant has a very high turnover, because of Wackenhut policies, and the lack of a retirement. You are assigned 12 hour shifts, with preference going to the people with there lasts names at the start of the alphabet. They don't mind giving the o.t. out my typical week i worked 63 hours. The job was just not for me, too many hours with nothing to do there. It's a boring security job. The job gets very old fast. If you want to make a good check without any hard work this is the place for you. You don't have to be in any kind of shape to work here, i put on 10 lbs in my three months there, that was enough for me. Any other questions i will answer

RedwaterMan...Keep calling. Should be another class going through in a couple months. Good training, pay the first year sucks, but after that it goes up well. By year three you'll be at $21/hr. Lots of walking and yes, no time to do homework or anything like that. Pretty strict here as the NRC and plant are always watching. PM me for what else I can give you but OPSEC is HIGH>

You could end up in a mall somewhere...or is that Argenbright?

Posted by: DoD102

Yeah, no mall security for Wackenhut. Unless you were being fecicious. (Not sure if that spelled right) Anyway, it's not the greatest job, but after one year it pays better than anything in this area. Be ready for extrmemly BORING nights, alot of kids playing on the radios, and alot of walking and stairs.
