I believe what the lad had to say was that he found the new instrument cluster on the Ford Crown Victoria impressive; the aforementioned cluster now includes a tachometer which gives an analog representation of the engine speed in revolutions per minute.

I would question the necessity of such a change however; moving the speedometer from its prominent position in the center of the cluster to a less visible location, the loss of such critical gauges such as voltage (police cruisers tend to have a heavy electrical load) and oil pressure while adding a tach.

Why is a tach even necessary? The CVPI engine is computer controlled, and you cannot over-rev it. It's an automatic, and very rarely will anyone be going up through the gears manually. My guess would be that 99 out of 100 cops will ignore it. On the other hand, an oil pressure gauge can alert an operator to a sudden drop in pressure and allow the engine to be shut down before serious damage is done. Likewise, by watching the volt gauge, malfunctioning electrical components can be identified before an equipment failure or fire.

Ford does it again.

An hour meter would have made more sense and would have been less intrusive. The addition of a digital speed readout along with the analog speedo would have been nice too. The RPM meter is a waste of space and is really only needed in vehicles where you have to manually shift. (even then most play it by ear.)

Pretty Nice, a digital speedometer would have been great for pacing.

Yeah like the Caprice had.

I think that a transmission temp guage would also be in order as well as the oil pressure, and amp meter.

There is an hour meter integrated into the trip meter/ odometer. Just push the button a couple times. The hour meter is now factory on all CVPI's. It only counts time idling in park or neutral.

Ugly ass wheel covers and new 17 inch wheels. The 5.4L 24V V8 300+ HP will be in the 2007 model, along with a major redesign.

Here it is, i think its the 2007 though.

Posted by: Andy0921

yeah it looks exactly like the 500

Posted by: Foxracingmtnridr

Looks like a cheap Town Car. And the grille is the same as my Taurus.

Looks like another Photoshop to me. Paste it into an image editor and enlarge. Looks like the hood, grille, and possibly wheels were added. Note the disappearance of the front bumper trim, lack of reflection on the hood, and the "skewing" of the grille - the grille is actually larger the further away it is, and that flies in the face of perspective (something further away seems smaller). Also the reflection of the front wheel on the floor doesn't seem to match up with the spoke pattern. I think the base vehicle for the picture was probably a Lincoln, added Ford wheels and a 500 grille.

EDIT: I love when I'm right!

Posted by: Andy0921

Yeah the new full wheel covers are only alright looking i actually like the look of the little chrome hup cap all shined up better.

From what I have seen on the 06CVPIs... there is an option for daytime running lights, ballistic kevlar panels in left or both front doors...@$1200ea.... The instrument cluster with tach..loss of two analog gauges..which is shared with all crown vics and Mercury Grand Marquis...P71s get the 140 certified.. A stronger, again, frame and suspension components, new interior colors which are lighter than the three other ones..."light camel", a new power point connector under dash, a new 80 amp connector in trunk separately fused from the PCU...a light bar connector on right side... a trunk mounted hold down strap with the kevlar tool box to hold bicycles in open trunk.... 17 inch wheels and high speed rated 17 inch tires...a couple new colors...and a short model year... THE 2007 JOB 1 is slated for the week of June 3, 2006 in St Thomas... a full two months earlier than the 2006. Kinda means no big changes for the new model as there is no shutdown for retooling... 2008 is the new nose and deck as I hear it... I want the Marauder 4 cam engine and 4 wheel drive... RAM

Posted by: crownvicp71

I forgot the neat new 17 inch one piece snap on wheel covers...no more plastic nuts to remove...and the slide out sunshades...and the new ignition switch positions... no more accessory beyond off.... goes off, acc, on, start...no more backward twisting... RAM

Posted by: 40th MPOC#309

Yeah-but how come my sainted 209-an '05 CV-has that ignition switchology already? Off-Acc-On-Start?

Posted by: Blueflu1

we have an 06' It's ok. Wheel covers are horrible so we went with the center hubs. it has MASSIVE front calipers and discs brakes, that is why the wheels are bigger and flat now instead of the dish wheel. Seems to stop better though. Instrument panel is ok but tach is unneccessary like you guys said. Volt meter is more important. It has a few annying "Ticks". Cant stop the door chime when the door is open and key is in the ignition. Can't just disconnect the switch for the light when you open the door. From what I understand, it has to be done in the computer. Annoying orange sticker by the trunk release button thats actually part of the dash and cant be removed. (May not be annying to most but stickers inside annoy me). Other then that, similar. Mine seems to ride worse in the back over bumps. Might be my imagination or just our car.

Without all that CSI investigating, just look at the dude leaning on the counter in the background...same-same

Yeah - found the original photo about 5 minutes after I made the original post. Edited to include the photo.

Little question the guages a patrol car should have won't be there. Ford's got us. Buy a rear wheel drive cruiser somewhere else if you can....

Sure the automatic transmission car has a tach. Next year they're bringing back the 8 track player as an option. I can't wait. I love writing tickets listening to Pink Floyd. Kinda keeps me in the mood.......

Posted by: dcs2244

Naturally, volt meters are superfluous...Amp meters are what we need...but I haven't found any "big" enough...that is, large enough for the current draw of a modern automobile.

The Ammeter will "tell-the-tale"...regarding alternator health or battery health...

I reckon it's big money for an ammeter of this nature, hence they are not supplied to us.

No sh*t, folks...I tried to locate one at "You-Do-It" electronics in Needham...they didn't have them, so "radio-sh*t" doesn't...

I miss the vacuum guage in my '63 Bonneville...

Supposedly, the 2007 Vic will be a whole new redesign. I am willing to bet that it will look alot like a cross between the Fusion and 500.

Yeah thats what I thought too but on the fleet website the civilian and taxi package still have the same design so I would imagine so would the police interceptor maybe the 08's will be a new design.

Posted by: j809

Yes, the new news is that 2008 is the all new platform most likely will be based on the Australian Ford Falcon.

Yeah I hope the redesign is next year but you never know because the letter I posted in a different thread states that it will go over big changes over the next few years theres many rumors that its going to be 2007 and some websites say 2009 but these are unreliable sources so i guess we will just have to wait and see.

Posted by: Andy0921

I think on the 07 crown vic there taking away the tach and i guess it will be volt, oil pressure, water temp and fuel. But im not sure thats what it states on a ford dealer website

Posted by: Andy0921

Also it says they will be in a analog read out but dont know if that is only on the civilian...is a analog read out like the caprice had?
