Just FYI. First I'm glad to see this thread being used so much. That's what we all hoped for. Secondly I just wanted to give a FYI. I no longer work for DoD Police. Things got ugly between civilians and AD when active duty took over about a year ago. I'm way too old to be working for a 20 something year old kid. (No offense to any 20 something y/o kids out there ) All the DoD jobs are in jeapordy there, at least that's my opinion. (And others too) Anyway, I took a job with Wackenhut Security, Nuclear Services Division. A pay cut initially, but w/in 12-18 onths I'll be back to what DoD was paying. Only 20 mins from home instead of an hour, and the bennies are alot better. Awesome training too! I'm kind-a surprised. I am guilty of having that security guard mentality sometimes, but these guys are well trained, monitored/supervised, and are the best of the best. Anyway I will continue to post on occasion. Hope I'm welcome on this thread. Will I try to start a new one for Security, probably not. Anyway, have a great new year everyone and thanks for an enjoyable time here at Masscops. P.S.--I con't with part time policing in western Mass. I still love the job. Be safe out there.

FYI--Wackenhut has jobs in K9, Boat patrols, Air Wing(Savanah has two helicopters and bosts for the river) They have investigators too. Some place like in Florida they patrol communities. Bikes etc.

Wackenhut also has in some locations, K9, Air Wing, Boat patrols(Savanah has two helicopters and a boat for the river.) They have investigators too. Not too bad of a company. They also patrol some communities in Fla.

Do they usually want police experience or do they do training?

Congrats Sarge,
You must be in VT? I did the opposite of you I went from Wackyournuts to DOD. I was at Seabrook Station. Just remember one thing in the contract guard business. things change, people change and when you are a contact guard it just as hard to get and keep the respect of the regular workers at the plant and outside LE as it is for DoD cops at their bases. *Not a bash just my observation* Good luck and don't go home glowing.....

good news! Hopefully it will work out for you!

Thanks DoD 272. Not a bash, I know. After 25 years as a cop, I'm not too concerned about what the"cops" think of us "security" guys. As DoD we were not looked upon as cops anyway. At least not in Chicopee. Besides, at my age, I've got nothing to prove. I've done my time. Ya know? DoD was a good gig while it lasted, but AF Reserve Command has a new idea of how things should go. Besides, I was also tired of driving an hour to and from work. Anyway, thanks for the comment and be safe Brother. P.S.--where are you a DoD cop? And yes, I'm in Vt.

Were you able to get a pension and retire, or did you have to quit? Much better to double dip.

I work for allied security and it blows. Just remember with security YOU are the product. Most are hire at will and can terminate you for almost no reason. Not sure how the nuclear division works in wackenhut i am sure you get better pay/training etc. However, most security companies just hire people to fill hours and will do ANYTHING to not pay OT and after working 25 years at 10 bucks an hr you get to look forward to 50-70% on retirement. NO THANKS!!!! Thats why i am looking to get out of the whole private security industry. Its a dead end job unless your a VP and even then you have to be on call. Good luck to you and i hope you enjoy your new job

Wackenhut here in Nevada has major operations at the Nevada Test Site.

K9Vinny sorry it took so long to get back to you. Training here turned out to be 15 weeks long!! Yes I can collect a retirement at age 56 from DoD. It own't be much but at least I didn't lose it. I am trying to get back into the Federal system tho. Seems there's alot we wernt told upon signing in here. Plus I miss the "JOB". Anyway, we'll see how it goes. Also it turns out not all DoD guys at Westover lost their jobs, only the ART's(Civilian technicians) Just my luck!!! Oh well, everything for a reason I guess.
