MBTA Application packet

Went in and signed the list at the MBTA Headquarters today. I'm #5 on the list and so far the people above me haven't signed. They're hiring 5 total, so we'll see what happens. Anyways.......I was looking at the packet and I came to the section of references. The application states that you are not allowed to use Police Officers as references.......has anybody ever heard of this?

Yes, its not uncommon

Some don't want police officer references, some require them.

It's just a little tough now........most of the people I know well enough to use as a reference are police officers or have been at one time and are retired now. I don't want to use people that will make it seem like I am reaching..........but that's what I am left with.

How about high school/college teachers, military buddies (if applicable), co-workers, clergy, friends of your parents, and neighbors? Remember....references don't need to intimately know you.

I have the high school friends to work with. My Dad's a retired police officer so all our family friends are either officers or retired officers. I just don't want to make it look like I am some recluse who is reaching and desperate for references.

Have you taken the PAT test yet or has the MBTA put out a date yet for when they will be giving the test.

If you make it past the background check, medical, psychological, etc., then they will notify you of when to take the PAT. Considering that candidates have until the 11th to sign the list, it's not gonna be too soon.
