Hi all, trying to get on an Auxiliary department and am thinking about applying to Freetown. They do have some info on their website, but was wondering if any of you have any info about their department, specifically the Auxiliary department ( what they do, how often you work, etc. ). Thank you for any/all information!

I went out there a few months ago to pick up an application but never returned it. I was just starting school and did not want to take on too much at once. The dispatcher I spoke with had lots of info, it seems like it would be a good gig. From what I was told you are trained in house and after you finish that up you can go out with the regular guys on patrol. The dispatcher also said they often choose people from the aux's to send to the R/I academy.

I would say it is a good experience stepping stone. From what I've heard the Freetown guys are pretty proactive and as an Aux you get to ride along with them and assist. So you are basically a cover officer during all interactions with the public. A very good way to learn how things go and get your feel for police work. Not sure if you are armed though, if not that would be my only problem with that position.

Where is Freetown?

North of Fall River and Acusnet and a little south of Taunton.
Rt 24 runs right through the town.
