Car caught fire due to currently unknown reason on 12/27 @ 2am. A small amount of smoke seeped inside the building.

If anyone has any information, post it now.

(You may use the pic just PM me a link to the site you are using it on)

Maybe its is because it is a FORD... In all seriousness more than likely it was something electrical. It has been cold mabe a critter made a nest under the hood and got hungry and chewed a wire. What ever the cause be it looks like it started from the engine compartment.

I first heard that it nearly caught the building on fire. Later that was changed to, "Smoke entered the building."

Any idea what year the car was? I do recall that they had an issue a couple of years ago that involved some type of electrical overheating under the top of the dash that could cause a fire.

I actually responded to 911 call that was a car fire. The vehicle was a late 90's Mercury and the fire started from within the dash when the car was running.

I know that in the past (under who knows what conditions), the fusible links...fuse themselves together instead of popping off and can possibly cause a fire.

I don't have any info, but that's what I have heard.

Well I just talked to a good friend of mine, he spoke with the officer who tried knocking down the blaze with a fire extinguisher... They too thing it was electrical.

Unconfirmed it was a 2005 CVPI with approx. 17k miles on it.

Its sad to see a new crown vic like that, but I'm told Mashpee has a 2004+ fleet.. mainly 2005 and 2006 cars.

Dmackack,

When are you going to do up a model of this one?

My 04 that I used to drive had a problem with the fusible links near the battery. They had to be replaced twice by MHQ because they melted or fuse themselves together and almost caused a fire. The very distinct smell of burning rubber saved the car twice.

Maybe Central Mass Public Safety is interested in purchasing it?

We just got a recall notice two weeks ago from Ford for the 05's for this exact problem. It says the fusible link can chafe on a crossmember bolt and lead to a fire. Maybe Mashpee's notice didn't get there quick enough.
