And of course, you can do a search on here for info, this is yet another department that has been discussed numerous times over the years.

Good luck!

Hey fjmas1976...you may be in quite the quandary. From your posts, it looks like you may be atring the DOC academy on 1/24. What are you gonna do if 1/2 way through the DOC academy, you get picked up by Transit??? I'm jealous of your sitaution!!!

The thing that I am nervous/dreading is being in the DOC Academy and going through the process with the MBTA. How is it possible to get days off for interviewing and etc with the MBTA while still staying in good standing during the DOC Corrections academy? Will the MBTA be flexible in their interview times..........or will I have to miss some time at the DOC academy?

I am hoping it will work out timewise. I wouldn't want to have to make a choice between a possible job with the MBTA and screwing up the Corrections job.

fjmas1976,

I know a guy who had a situation like yours last year. He was in the DOC academy and he then began the process for a job with Boston Fire. If he wanted to proceed with Boston Fire he had to attend a mandatory meeting that happened to fall on a day that the DOC academy was in session. The DOC would not excuse him from training that day, and the BFD would not allow him to miss the meeting. He was much more interested in a job with the BFD, then with the DOC, so he took a gamble and quit the DOC. It ended up working out for him and he was hired by the BFD.

Pay attention non-vets. This shows that it pays off to be a Veteran. Serve your country and your country will reward you in return.

fjmas....listen, I spent 5 years with the DOC (Class 245, 1996). I have many, many fond memories of my time there and am still close to many of the guys I went to the academy with and worked with but as they will tell you in the academy, no one grows up saying I want to go to prison and that is what the job is like. You are doing time just like the rest of the cons, only your doing it at 8 hour increments. If you got a shot at a Police Department, take it, or you will forever regret it. No offense intended but the D.O.C is a lot easier to get onto then a PD. You can always go back.....

Good luck!

How could I work that? Would I be able to defer the DOC until the next Academy start date just in case the MBTA doesn't happen for me? I don't want to blow one job that is almost a sure thing for a job that might not happen
