Goffigan brother wounded in Christmas Eve shooting By Laurel J. Sweet Wednesday, December 28, 2005 - Updated: 12:42 AM EST
Lightning has struck twice at a Roxbury home already traumatized by one of the most tragic murders in Boston’s history.
Jerome Goffigan, 23 — whose kid brother Jermaine, 9, was killed by gang crossfire while trick-or-treating on Halloween night 1994 — lay in a hospital bed yesterday, wounded by gunfire on Christmas Eve.
“This is too much,” his mother, Deborah Haskins, 49, told the Herald. “I just can’t take any more.”
Haskins happened on the scene as Jerome Goffigan was being loaded into an ambulance and recognized him from his sneakers. She said she does not know the two men Boston police have arrested and charged with attempting to murder her son: Demetrius Ennis, 23, of Roxbury and Emmanuel Delacruz, 17, of Dorchester.
Goffigan was shot in the left kneecap early Saturday afternoon coming out of a barber shop but may have been missed by several other bullets. Witnesses in the area of Dixwell and School streets reported hearing at least 10 shots.
One of them smashed through the window of a home and shattered a flowerpot, police said.
Goffigan, whose family said he has never recovered from witnessing his little brother’s murder, had crack cocaine and marijuana in his pockets, according to a police report.
“He’s going to be OK. He has a cast on,” said Goffigan’s aunt, Denise Haskins. “We are truly blessed that we are not going to a funeral this week.”
