QUINCY —
A Quincy man who police say swallowed 26 bags of drugs after being stopped by Canton police was to be arraigned today on cocaine-trafficking charges.
Juan Soto-Diaz, 23, of 80 Sixth Ave., Quincy, was arrested April 17 by Canton police. Police said officers saw Soto-Diaz committing minor vehicle infractions and that he failed to stop when police began pursuing him.
Police say officers saw two pieces of crack cocaine on the passenger seat of Soto-Diaz’s car. During booking at the Canton police station, Soto-Diaz told police that he had swallowed 13 to 15 bags of cocaine.
Police then took Soto-Diaz to a local hospital, where, after being treated, he expelled 26 bags from his body – four bags of heroin weighing three grams, 11 bags of cocaine weighing 11 grams and 11 bags of crack cocaine weighing five grams.
He has been charged with trafficking a Class B drug, possession of a Class B drug, possession with intent to distribute a Class A drug, failure to stop for police, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, a marked-lanes violation and failure to stop for a signal.
Soto-Diaz is to be arraigned at Stoughton District Court.
