Man smokes crack, sets fire to apartment, spits on police when arrested GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. -- Police responding to a fire alarm at the Lake View apartments arrested a man found in one of the units, the one currently on fire, when he answered the door apparently under the influence and holding a crack pipe.
The man struggled with the officers when they tried to place him under arrest, and reportedly spit on them several times during the struggle. After being removed from the apartment by the officers, the man claimed there was another occupant inside. The officers then reentered the heavily-smoke-filled apartment, crawling to each room to check for other persons. No additional occupants were found.
The suspect was taken to JFK Hospital in Stratford for a medical evaluation.
After the fire was extinguished by the four responding fire companies from Chewslanding, Blenheim, Blackwood and Runnemede, It was determined by Camden County Fire Marshalls that the fire had been intentionally set.
Residents that had been evacuated were allowed to return to their apartments, and no injuries were reported.
Dorrhon Lasseter, 25, the man arrested, was found to be in possession of small quantities of both crack cocaine and marijuana. He has been charged with aggravated arson, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of controlled dangerous substance paraphernalia, use and under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance, criminal mischief, resisting arrest, obstruction of justice and throwing bodily fluids at a law enforcement officer.
