How to Apply
Candidates must complete and return an Applicant Data Sheet, available in PDF format here. If you cannot download this form, please call 727-587-6766 and request that an employee packet be mailed to you. Return the form to Recruiting Officer, Largo Police Department, P.O. Box 296, Largo, FL, 33779-0296.

Candidates must also process through the Public Safety Applicant Screening Service (PASS) at the SPC Allstate Center, Suite 135, 3200 34th Street South, St. Petersburg, Florida 33711. Their telephone is (727) 864-3822. This screening includes a written examination, administrative interview and background investigation. To expedite the hiring process, please begin your processing with PASS as soon as possible. The Police Department will reimburse the basic Public Safety Applicant Screening fees upon hire as a Police Officer with our agency.

The Police Department's screening process includes:

Ride along
Oral Board Review
Second Ride along
Interviews with Chiefs
After an offer of employment is given, applicants must successfully complete the following:

Polygraph
Psychological evaluation
Medical examination (including X-rays, EKG, and drug screening)
The probationary period for a Police Officer is one (1) year from the date of graduation from the Police Academy or from hire date if already certified in the State of Florida. Police Officers must agree to a contract for reimbursement of hiring and training expenses. The period of the contract is from the date of employment through 24 months beyond the date of release from field training.

Police Academy Training
Entry level Police Officers requiring academy training are assigned to the Southeastern Public Safety Institute (21 weeks) dependent on the availability of starting dates. Recruits commute each day to the academy Monday through Friday. Hours are normally 0730 - 1630, but some activities require night training. After completing the academy, recruit officers are required to pass a Florida State Certification Exam to continue employment as a police officer.
