Sometimes we get a feel for the bus tossers, and sometimes we "bond" ! (and listen in for them when they head off to their new troops after break in)
Bitchin' to the masses since 2005

They should spend more than a shift.
Some of our guys work the desk one shift per rotation. Thankfully they usually get what it entails so they understand and are appreciative.

New Troopers? What are those?

If your on the job still in 10 years, you might be lucky enough to see them. Rare breed they are.

I have absolutely no problem with this and think its a good practice, BUT! on the flip side how often do dispatchers go on the road to see the other side of the mic?

I know I would if they would let me.

They let them on my job but it has to be on their own time, (I dont agree with that policy). I am of the belief that is should be manditory.

We normally run 3 dispatchers here. Usually we only need 2 in here. We could very easily go out for a few hours.

We usually have a min of two call takers and three in dispatch. On those nights we absolutely could not do it. But there are times when there are 5 call takers, those nights someone should be out on a ride along!!

I've been out on many ride-alongs and went to the R/I academy so know the issues officers deal with on the street. That being said a lot of officers prefer ride-alongs with 20 year old female CJ majors named "Kammie" or some other cutesy name like that. The guys get shot down a lot because it's "too busy." Not that I blame them.. I'm just sayin.
